Is it ok to gently sand down high spots on rough Stators?

Got a set of pretty much brand new motors, shafts are not bent but the magnets in two are very slightly skimming the stator (have been doing since I got them) which is resulting in an intermittent high pitched whistle, if you look at the magnets you can see faint marks where they have been just skimming past the stator, I';ve tried swapping the bells around and its fine on another stator, I just think the stator on two motors is a little rough and has a few very small high spots which is causing it to rub ever so slightly, its it safe to sand down the outer edge of the stator with very fine emery paper or can this cause problems?

Can';t see a problem with doing that. Just don';t take too much off.

I figured it would be ok, I';m literally talking probably a hairs width, will use very fine grit paper probably 1000.
