LED strip recommendations?

After flying at the tail end of the afternoon when the sun was low I have realised that I need strip LEDs on my F450.
Has anyone any recommendation? I have seen there seem to be 3 different types 5050 3528 and 5630.
I really want to use them to help orientation as with dimming light I had a few issues working out which way it was facing, nothing major but trying to reduce errors flying los so I can progress to fpv.

Thanks for any help.
I try :-)

If you want strip 5050 are pretty good but I';ve no opted for 1W cree led';s x2 on each arm, they are very much brighter.

I use something like

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bright-5M-3528-Day-White-300-LED-Light-Flexible-Strip-Lighting-12V-DIY-Party-/162189030350?hash=item25c33833ce:g:uwgAAOSwQM9UZxvO

if you look around on Ebay you can get various colours or even RGB ones either plain or waterprrof ones (the latter are more awkward to use as you have to remove the coating before you can solder to them.

I put the super bright lights on my Hex, but tbh found them to bright

I was a bit worried about them being too bright. Which ones did you find too bright?

I have had a look and it looks like 5050(60mA) are twice as bright as 3528(30mA). They also use twice the current! The 5630 are even brighter, at twice as bright as 5050 but again twice the current(150mA).

Was thinking or red at rear, bLue on Left, gReen on Right, and maybe white at front.

Cheers.

A friend got them, they are the 3volt ones on a little Ali heat sink, having tried them i find the front ones cast a bright green glow onto the camera footage, hence going back to the ones i linked to, and that seller is spot on very fast

I';ve fitted purpose built 3 led bars, 5050 and 3528 waterproof strips and high power LED';s. Imho I found these to be best:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-5-10-pcs-1W-3W-10W-High-Power-LED-with-PCB-Grow-lights-aquarium-LED-UK-COB-/131345637382?var=&hash=item1e94cf6006:m:muCN13FqW4iRHWg6xTjm_kQ

Driven off of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-AC-DC-LED-Driver-600ma-1-3-x-3W-Power-Supply-Constant-Current-MR16-/221767993502?var=&hash=item33a267089e:m:mi8NNgK8AfvNd4qrgn_RE7w

In my experience no external heat sink is needed. The built in heat sink does the job fine.

They';re cheap, bright, very bright, with low power consumption.

They look interesting. Did you go for the 1watt or 3 watt?
Cheers.

Small iphone screen + big thumbs = thank you!   ;D

I fit the 1w version. They';re still really bright. I worried that the 3w version would create light flare when filming or taking photos.

I always order mine from here
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271819091125?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&var=570647207510&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I find them very good and though it does not state it they can work on 4s

These are units with end wire connection made. The strips are available by the metre, and I bulk bought loads in all colours for night fixed wing before I got into Quads.

One thing though, while the ones I have do not blow short term on 4S, they are being over run and the heat generated is sufficient to burn yourself on them, so life must logically be foreshortened, have you run them for some time on 4S?

Hi Nate,
I would like to try adding lights to my Y6.
Can you share any photos or wiring sketches to help me understand how you use these?

Thanks
Andy

you might be right about running 4s long term, might go back to using them at 12v
