So who is getting the Mavic?

It would seem a lot of flyers, are selling their souls to get the Mavic, i dont see me getting one.
First im not knocking the product or the people choosing to buy this new quad, it looks a lovely design with superb features, but for me i am still not good enough to warrant such a high tech machine, also there is all this talk of EU rules being brought in to limit what we can fly and such like, i would hate to pull the trigger and then find i cant legally fly the thing
Volantex Ranger 1600/2000, Ranger 1200 G2, Phoenix S 1600 AR900 Miniskyhunter, ZOHD Dart 635 and a few 680 batwings plus old faithful C1 chaser and a lot of eagletree guardians

Fletch

If i had the money, i';d buy one!

I always swore i';d never buy DJI!

apollo7

I am half toying with selling my P3 s and getting the P3 A, i think the A will be all i want from a quad and the prices are coming down a little now with the new kid on the block

Same here, then I wanted instant flight with full camera control and long flight time. I also said I wouldn';t buy Apple.
Ended up with PH3 advanced and a IPad mini. Such is life!!!

I to have the Levono, it didn';t work with the Go app properly, when I started recording video it cut out. This was why I got the IPad.
The Go app has been updated and now works !!!!
The P3A is  great ,I got the backpack so it is easy to transport and  doesn';t shout Drone. The quality of the pics over the ones I was getting with a Gopro is impressive, and no fisheye, so less post  processing to do.

Exactly the reason I got one.
Why use 4 motors when you can use 6?

Yes all DB';s fault it was  his reviews and footage that made me push the button. :slap:
The bank account has only just recovered. ::)

Like many others, I';d love one however I have chosen the DJI P3A as my first decent drone. Cost plays a big part I';m afraid otherwise I';d have them both.

agrs1974

Yes I';m sticking my P3P up for sale to get one.

I just bought a P3PS as it was cheap, said i would never buy a DJI Phantom, love it to bits its all i need. If i would not get divorced i would have a Mavic in a heart beat, but until they are a £100 or someone gives me one, i will never have one:( NOT FAIR:(

nate80

They look great and I';d certainly like one. But I already have a very capable Phantom 3 advance (with plenty of costly extras) which isn';t flown often enough, so I';ll probably wait for the next version which will likely be out in under a years time.

The speed at which some tech is being improved, replaced or made virtually redundant these days has become ridiculous. £1000 minimum outlay for 1 years use before it';s replaced by something much better is a bit of a bad joke IMHO.

Mark_Felton

Unfortunately, you are completely correct Nate.  How many ran out to buy Phantoms etc only to see the Mavic turn up and how many will rush to the Mavic only to see it depreciate faster than you can count to 10 when someone else brings out something better.

Having watched a vid or 2 of the Mavic, I am wondering what part of the market is it aimed at....it has a turn of speed etc, but is it a camera platform for amateur video?  Or do they see professionals buying it?  Doesn';t the current crop of Phantoms do good video....or is this another Iphone...its new and I must have it?

Got it in one!!!!
Yet another fashion item!!!!

Jazzz

Couple of hard landings and its toast
I';d have one if money was no object
But it would be way down the list

flycatchers

One issue I can see with the Mavic is finding a nice smooth and level area for taking off and landing. With my Phantom I take off from its case and hand catch at the end. You wouldn';t want a hard case for the Mavic as that would tend to defeat its compact size. And does not seem ideal for hand catching. Plus I would imagine that folding legs might be more fragile if you were holding all it weight by one. Still like it though... Will wait till spring and see how in the real World it performs and what downsides it will reveal.

Hmm, I think it';s possibly slightly more than that Darren.

About the same price as an amateur DSLR, I know what I';d sooner have.

Please get my name right - it';s there in front of you!!!
As far as the Mavic goes we';ll see!!!
At it';s weight how can it be a serious aerial platform??? Ever seen a decent one that weight???
Yes it';s got a lot of bells and whistles but how many of them are just a gimmick???

Soz, my auto spell doesn';t like Darrell for some reason.
Not surely if it';s any more gimmicky than any new product?  Aren';t they meant to push boundaries?

Revs

Well mine';s still on order. I ordered the ';fly more combo'; on the 1st, but no combo versions have shipped as yet. Fingers crossed they';ll ship soon. The standard version started shipping last week, finally. But only to people who ordered in the first few hours.

Sounds like DJI are struggling to make the batteries fast enough. If you ordered now the chances are you';ll be waiting well in to December.

Spell checkers are a right PITA!!!
It';s no more gimmicky than most of the new ';Toy grade'; stuff but for something that';s being aimed at a higher grade market I can';t see why.
Pushing boundaries is OK provided it doesn';t attract the wrong type of purchaser, which in my opinion is what';s going to happen; we';re already seeing knee jerk reactions going on because of the stupidity going on in the ';Drone boom'; so why add fuel to the fire???

Slobberdog57

well for me its a toss up between the Mavic and the Typhoon H,

bit of a gap in the platforms I know but its still a hard decision for me,
Cost of ongoing battle with Gravity, .........:( Don't Ask :(...........

Hmm, not sure what you';re saying here?  So we have to dumb it all down for the sake of the masses?  Drones are popular because they can do so much.  The public have responded to drones much faster than the dinosaur and paranoic authorities, a bit like Brexit, ';we knew it was coming but stood in the road waiting for it to hit us before we did anything about it'; mentality.

I wasn';t around at the birth of the motor car, but I';m fairly certain it was a similar thing, public horror first, until the hoity-toity brigade started thrashing them around the dust tracks, killing and maiming all who stood in their way (brakes weren';t too hot in the early days).  Henry Ford got stuck in and the rest is history.  All new inventions as ground breaking as these have their detractors and their champions, same old really.

buzz_uk

I ordered on the 5th, for me it';s going to be my first ';proper'; dji......... can';t wait  :wack0

JeremyE

I';m designing my own version with a pixhawk and airgear 350 motors. Should make for some fun.

Fletch

I';ve got a fixhawk and a pixhawk .... they are a constant fight before a flight.

The joys of dji these days is a quick dance and it flys
