Bro in law has expressed a interest in flying but is looking at going down single engine fixed wing path ( time is his enemy) so I said I would ask you guys for good noob advice

He does not need radio gear as I have futaba set here he can use
He would like poiibly to either video flights or possibly go fpv

So feel free to make suggestions

Bixler!   Easy to fly and can take FPV gear easily.

kilby

The Hobbykung Walrus is fairly good too

Bixler 2 or AXN Floater jet, both great easy to fly planes and both fpv capable.

I do like my Bixler, its really nice to fly, its not slow if you don';t want it to be, you can give it some throttle and it goes very well.  However its default speed is quite slow and floaty and it stalls and spins only if you work at it.  It also comes with a mount you can use for a camera.

It has lots of room for electronics inside it.  Its cheap and durable too.  The wings can also be removed fairly easily, especially if you rig up some plugs and sockets.  Lots of mods for it are online.

The AXN is a nice cheap plane but it is quite small really, not much room inside for electronics, however its crashes well.  It does fly well too but is a little light and wobbly in turbulent conditions.  The wings can be made to be remove-able if you check the internet, there are many mods for it.

The best thing about these two planes is they are really cheap and they instill lots of confidence due to the low cost and nice easy forgiving flight characteristics.

This is good for learners

That Firstar 1600EX is an AXN with a bigger nose section pretty much isn';t it?
I do like the Walrus too, especially the night fly one.  That front mounted motor isn';t so great for learners..Very vulnerable.

A guy on here RAF, did a super dooper job of building an FPV Bixler.  Check this out.

The Firstar is a blow moulded nylon fus so is a lot stronger than the AXN so will take a bit more abuse,  I don';t have one myself  but at some point might.

I have a Raptor V2 from Bangood models. Only needed a receiver and battery to get it going. Easy assembly and good You Tube videos to help.  Very easy to fly. No undercarriage so just hand launch from anywhere.  Now fitted with FPV so I have a camera where the cockpit is, fitted to a remote gimbal so I can turn and look over the right and left wings or look up and a little down as I fly.  The FPV has made it more fun to fly, but please remember you must still have a spotter with you at all times.  ~~

Powernumpty

The Volantex type do have a real advantage on the space front, I';ve only got a ASW28 so can';t comment generally but that has huge space, so much that I have to remember to not let things move around.

The AXN is a great knock around but I have to cut a small hatch in the bottom to fit the receiver and any extras, as long as you don';t mind doing some cut and shut it is OK but I';d probably go up market a bit as the design is a bit old and could do with revision. Mine is ugly as it has much fibre reinforced tape to stuffen up the old beaten foam.
On the bixler or Bix I';m always a bit confused which model people recommend as the orgianl seems OK and then they went slower on the 2 and more fancy on the Bix 3.
