450 Replacement Suggestions

My 450 which I';ve had for 2 1/2 yrs decided it was such a nice day it fancied cooling itself off in the sea which hasn';t done it an awful lot of good.

What would you replace it with, I';m mainly use it for doing a bit of photography and up until today have been using a Gopro 3+ with a non fish eye lens .... having reasonable quality video would be a bonus but not essential.

In some ways the obvious choice seems like a Phantom 3/4 but it seems a shame when I decent Futaba TX and a host of 3s batteries and can charge several at a time to go that route ... another alternative would be a direct replacement with pretty much the same.

Does anyone know what difference in quality of the cameras would be and if the DJI';s better or suggestion of any other alternative set ups would be good as well!!

You could consider an F550 and canibalise some of the ok parts, would be better on 4S but running 9x4.5 props on 3S should be fine.

Cheers for the replies so far ...... I probably should of said I do have a tarot 680 that I use as my video platform and liked the size of the 450 as it was so easy to throw in the car.

I was using an old 2 axis Zenmuse as it was just for stills ... I';d love to be able to find something that';d maybe take a Ricoh GR or possible a RX 100 (or something else similar) but without going too much bigger although there';s always been the issue of what gimbal you could use for either of those ... that said if the camera on the Phantom was better quality than the gopro and also provided me with a 3 axis gimbal for video at the same time that';d just be a plus but would forgo any video for better quality stills.

Phantoms don';t have 3 axis gimbals, the landing gear would be in the way!

The Tarot 680 hex (above) @ nearly £700 is a bit stiff for the cash i would go for the Phantom 3 / 4.  mainly as they are very stable, and the gps on them  is far better.
I was in the same position as you, and after a lot of faffing around and DB singing the Phantoms praises i went for it.
