APM2.6 and ESC Query

Hello and first time poster and quite new to this so go easy.

I have a APM2.6 and are connecting 4 ESC (20A SimonK) with BEC and a 3DR Power module with BEC.

My question is do I just plug these straight in to the FC and just remove the jumper link to separate the rails or do I have to cut any wires on the ESC as I am not running any servos except for pins A10 and A11 which will control a gimbal which obviously power comes from the 3DR.

The post has been here for a while so you might already have your answer, however..

The APM had an argument for both possibilities you mention. My advice would be to cut (or at least remove) the BEC wire from the ESC';s.

Although most modern ESC will handle ripple current from the others it tends to generate unnecessary heat. You could leave just one connected for redundancy but then you tend to get one ESC hotter than the rest and that can degrade the output of the Mosfets causing an inbalance.

If your using a power module and your jumper pin is in place then there';s no need for any bec power from any of the esc.

that said you can leave the power leads in place if you so wish but it can cause interference, personally I unplugged the bec power leads (leaving only the signal obviously) just as a precaution.

ps: your gimbal will draw power from the APM still so you wont need to seperately power it with a bec, just incase you were wondering.

I would vote for not using the +ve from the ESCs

I';ve just built a F450 with APM mini and have used a power module and not used any of the esc bec +ve those are going to be used for led';s when I get round to it.
