Losing the plot when flying FPV

Here is a little comment about how easy it is to "get lost" when flying FPV...A warning.

I was flying my quad about on on Shap Summit recently.  It was all stone walls and little green fields.

I was fairly zooming about and LUCKILY my partner was doing the spotting for me.

I was following a stone wall around the field I was in and sort of got carried away.

My spotter started to flap saying "its getting really far away now" and to bring it back,  the only problem was.......

WHICH WAY WAS "BACK HOME".

So I sort of had a little panic but I thought "no problem" I "should" be able to see the little camp site we were at and my big white van and the other big white caravans in the field....

Then, I "discovered" that actually there were white blobs all over the landscape and all little green fields with stone walls around then LOOK THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!!  :o

Lady Luck and my good lady spotter saved the day enabling her to guide it back to the home field, but only just....

Phew.

There is a lesson in FPV';ing for you all...

Having a spotter is pretty essential as well as a legal requirement.

You know, I';ve often wondered if it';s worth bringing a marker along. Something like a bright flag on a long stick.

Before I go hooning around, I pop up to about 30 feet and do a lazy 360 degree circle and look for some handy landmarks near to me.....As Andy said, a fishing rod with a bright flag on it would be good, the ones you see at Festivals.....

Is it alright to have a giggle?

Everything turned out fine in the end, that';s what matters.i just tend to stay in the green where I fly, local park.

I take the family picnic rug out, keeps my kit off the wet grass and helps me find out where I am in the field.
