Hex incoming

I have been strongly considering a 550 hex as a natural evolution and as a result of this i have managed to source a rather large pile of bits, mainly 3 F550 frames, a good handful of NTM prop drive 900kv motors and a good amount of Turnigy plush 30amp esc`s plus some props and a turnigy programming card, so with luck i should be able to coble together a 550 hex.

I am not sure about the motors long term but at price i have got this for i can afford to upgrade once its built and flown a few times............wish me luck

Good luck, you';re going to need it with them motors ::)
Bearings don';t last very long, that said decent bearings do help - I put some hybrid ceramic ones in one I had in a plane and it was fine.

apollo7

i am told that 8 of the motors have new bearings but i do plan to go for better ones once ita built and flying

Would marspower 2212 920kv motors be an upgrade for the NTM motors, i ask as i have four that have only had ten minutes air time, this would only need 2 more to be bought?

Unless you buy premium quality motors there';s not going to be much difference - with motors you get what you pay for - I';ve got an old Axi on a Jeti esc on a 3D foamy and it';s bomb proof but it cost 4x as much as HK. It';s been 100% reliable and never missed a beat!

Well, a huge pile of 550 bits arrived the other day, parts for 3 frames, about 40 props nine motors and 7 plush 30amp escs, i already have landing gear and apm so hoping to find time to start this weekend  :cool:

Apollo;

Would marspower 2212 920kv motors be an upgrade for the NTM motors?

I have a dozen or so of these, Considering they are the same identical motors to the original phantom ones and cost a fraction of the price I can recommend them highly.

I would use them without hesitation, remember you will need DJI STYLE props, no big deal as they are abundant and cheap, just remember to lube the top and bottom bearings occasionally as with any motor, I have never had bearing problems.

These are my next order;

These motors are certainly an exception to the rule of you get what you pay for :beer2:

cheers,
i have the marspower motors on the f450 and they seem very sweet, i have built the hex airframe and fitted the prop drive motors but if they need replacing will get marspower

I';ve been using those Marspower on a hex also, since Dec 2014 and they';ve been rock steady performers, even with me being rather unkind in the oiling of.   ::)    Mine has had a few "unplanned landings" and in one case an E-clip disappeared - fortunately discovered during pre-flight inspection and replaced.    They';re hardy beasts...

They are very good for the money, just a bit of a nuisance sorting props for them, i find the tunigy multistar props seem to fit best

This build had ground to a halt due to the used APM controller not wanting to play in hex setup after being a Quad controller, i was also rather unsure of the motors but i have four multistar 2213 motors sitting doing nowt so i have ordered another 2 and a brand new APM, so onwards and hopefully "upwards"

I had that happen to me once, late last year, don';t know why, never got to the bottom of it.  I tried absolutely everything including a full erase and reload. Steadfastly it would only load up the Quad version of the code, failing to be a Hex.  Its now a paperweight as I don';t really trust it to fly anything either!!!

Really weird.

#13
work has resumed on this, the NTM motors are of and i have started fitting the Multistar 2213 (i like these)
you will see i have only fitted 4 motors, i ordered 2 new ones to make the set and they are sat in a neighbors house and she is out, since taking this pic i have tidied up the LED strip lights.
The new APM should have arrived today but no sign of it, if it arrives tomorrow i might be on target for a test flight by end of weekend

Its now a Hexacopter with 6, not four motors, it is just balanced on the landing gear as i am not ready to fit and not sure how to just yet but making progress, just wish the blumming APM would arrive
