No GPS lock

As some of you have already read, I crashed my quad into deep water a few weeks back.  I';ve now rebuilt it and its flying sweet in stabilise and Im chuffed to bits. Well, apart from the fact it cannot get a GPS lock.  :cry

Now I have only flown it around my back garden today with no lock and not tried another location but I was getting a lock with no problem before the soaking in my garden. The GPS green light is on so power is ok to it. I';m gonna recheck the tiny molex connections in a moment but I think theyre ok tbh.

Is there a parameter I';m missing somewhere or perhaps anything else that you guys know of or has the water got the better of the GPS module....?

Thanks

Rob

Check the actual gps sensor itself mate. Does it have any hairline cracks running through the ceramic dielectric patch sensor?
My 450 with naza and GPS got smashed into by a flying wing at a FPV meet last year and I had the same problem after the rebuild I.e. no GPS lock.  Turned out the sensor was cracked in half.  I have since repaired it with a replacement gps sensor and I get sat lock within 10 seconds again woohoo.  Ive got some spare sensors as a backup now as they were cheap to buy.

Anyway it';s just a thought..look closely, in particular around the centre where it has the central pin soldered to it.

One more thing...if you can apply pressure to one corner of the gps sensor to make it twist about the centrally soldered pin you can see if the top joint is broken as the sensor will move independently of the pin, confirming a bad connection.

Cheers Gav,
Ive got it working now.  Did a couple of things and not sure which one got it working but I unpllugged the molex plug and and pushed home the pins, although they looked fine.  Also found a parameter in mission planner that I enabled called "enable gps lock". This was disabled. Duuurrrr.  I reckon this could have been it perhaps.  Anyway, its locking ok now. Now ive got to work out why it dropping in altitude when in alt hold and/or loiter.......

Thats wierd, I would have thought that was enabled originally or you wouldn';t have had gps lock before.
I will have a look at mine and see what the settings are.

Im using a new parameter file Allan.  I think it mustn';t have been enabled.  Seems I';m still having intermittent problems with it anyway.  I think its down to the cable connecting it to the flight controller as my 3dr device sometimes wont connect and its on the same plug. If I waggle the wire a bit then it connects.

Just got to find out where to get them from. Maybe I';ll send Peter an email.

The setting on mine is disabled too, the only mention of GPS is in Copter LED mode wher it is set to GPS on. Good luck with your cable search.

Cheers for the link mate, but would I not need the £300 crimping tool for these?

Hi Rob
Mine was disabled too.
I';ve enabled it now aswell but tell me if I';m wrong but I think by enabling it that it just means it won';t arm without a GPS signal??

Rob, if you are going to contact Peter, ask him about the GPS lock setting. I just watched one of his videos and he mentions that he just works off the advanced parameters. Maybe the setting in standard parameters doesnt have any effect.
Its all Greek to me......
