Baseflight to cleanflight swap causing Angle problem

(Noobie, so don';t assume I haven';t done something stupid...!)

Hi,

I used to use Baseflight, but swapped to Cleanflight for LEDs support.

The stock settings in Baseflight for auto leveling worked great. But when I swapped to Cleanflight it is far less good at leveling itself out.

In Horizon mode it sort of tries to auto level, just not very well.
In Angle mode it keeps the angle i give it.
With neither selected it oscillates terribly to the point of flipping itself over!

Any idea how I can restore it to how Baseflight will have had it? I assume its something to do with the PID settings. See attached graphic for current settings. Is there a way to get the old stock settings out of Baseflight (I never fiddled with them, it just worked).

Any help would be great!  :beer2:

Horizon sounds right
Your description of Angle sounds like Acro
That last one is probably Angle but poorly tuned

Never used baseflight but cleanflight';s default flight mode is Acro. Check in the GUI that your mode switch is actually putting you into the modes that you';re expecting.

As for the tuning, Luxfloat (PID controller 2) and default PIDs have always been flyable on all my miniquad builds. Some have benefitted from a little tuning to get the performance spot on, but out-of-the-box Luxfloat is great

Fletch

There is something going on with the angle modes and the latest version of cleanflight.

Try the previous version and see if that helps

I knew betaflight had some issues but fpdidnt realise cf 1.11 did, you sure you got that one right mate?

I agree with static completely, stock PIDs should be fine for lux or rewrite

Can you (with props off) connect your flight battery, put the quad in to acro mode from the radio, then screen shot your modes tab and post it?

Stevie

Hello! Thanks for the help guys, here';s the screen shot...

(You';ve lost me Lux and rewrite, so if i need to understand that can you give me more details?)

Lol ok so acro is correct, can you also take screenshots of angle and horizon mode

Also confirm from the config tab what your min throttle is and then finally on the motors table, spin up each motor in turn and confirm what throttle they start it

PID controllers, lux =luxfloat, rewrite =multiwii rewrite - on the PID tab, at the top

On cf 1.11 lux is probably the best to use, in betaflight and probably the next cf multiwii rewrite
(It wouldn';t be a bad idea to switch PID controller to lux and just use the stock PIDs, see how that flies

Edit maybe fletch is right, might be worth flashing 1.10 see if the problem still persists

Stevie

Min throttle = 1050

The motors start at...
1025
1021
1025
1023

It';s currently set to multiwii rewrite. I';ll try the stock Lux settings tomorrow if there is a break in the rain!

Ok so all that looks good,
Modes are set and working fine in terms of signal:
Curious as to why you have horizon and acro at opposite ends of a 3 posn switch with angle in the middle (the more obvious being angle, then horizon, then acro since that follows the degree of stabilisation. (Worried you flipped the switch the wrong way but too polite to say it :))

Motors are not wildly out hence nothing there fubar enough to kill it.

Definitely try lux stock PIDs, if that still doesn';t work I would go with fletchs suggestion (you ought to be able to test a gentle hove indoors, indeed you can even test it with props off:
Give it a low throttle and a little pitch for a second or two, in acro mode two motors should wind right up and stay there. In angle they should wind up whilst you are giving pitch but settle back down again

Ha ha, because I didn';t know the difference between angle and horizon, and from observing what happened, it seemed to be ';more self leveling'; in horizon mode!

It';s all a bit strange as it handled perfectly on whatever settings Baseflight gave it.

I';ll test it with Lux tomorrow and report back.

Stevie

It';s a result!

The Lux settings have turned it back to the nice docile friend it used to be before.

And in Acro mode it wants me dead!   :o

Thanks for your help guys, as always.  :notworthy:

As an aside, yesterday I helped a friend build his first quad. The learning curve is steep, but with help from you guys it all becomes possible for us beginners.
