best 'on a budget' antenna

Need to upgrade the stock fatshark whips to something with a bit more punch but  don';t wanna break the bank. What';s a good choice? I don';t want some fisher price piece of junk but I also don';t need them to be NASA spec either.

Think I';m going to order two sets of these as I need Sma pair ( for my modded X4 ) and an rpsma pair for my fatshark. Just one more quick question, the smaller ones without the shaft look a lot tidier when fitted but is there much difference in performance between those and the ';shafted'; ones?

any antenna with a stalk length under 1 wavelength is going to suffer a bit. near field effect or some such, not up on the specifics of RF theory but have just read this is the case. it will still work but wont be as effective.

Yeh it was a stupid question tbh it';s obviously going to affect quality over range, I';m still only half awake

I have been in a dilemma over antennas for days now and the more adverts i saw saying these are great and only so much for a pair and those are the best to go for and i just got completely confused. 

So i just thought i have had enough of all this messing about and i just ordered 3 X skew planars 4 leaf antennas from Gav on this forum (as recommended to me)

I';m having this dilemma over everything recently 
I';ve had to choose from various balance chargers, lipo ';s , props, antennas etc etc etc, I haven';t spoke to anyone at work or my wife and kids for 2 weeks  and if I have spoke it';s only to explain what I';m deliberating over on hobbyking

I have looked at loads of antenna retailers claiming this and that but in the end and thinking about mass produced items and possible quality control issues i chose to get mine from Gav on here as recommended to me.

Recommendations are usually the best. Gav has a great reputation here and judging by what I have read, provides good customer service.

Gavs are great by all accounts but mine didn';t last longer than one crash upside down into damp earth so for a mini quad I couldn';t recommend them. Build my own now which have never been swr tested but for £1 and 30 mins of time on each I don';t care if they';re not the best. As my mates say they';re better than nothing

One of my main considerations is do I really want to go mad with spending on an item which I';m more than likely going to trash.
I';ll  probably just pick up a couple of sets of the aomway and if I want to upgrade I can always use these on a later build.

On the vrx side of things I guess your Mars rover antenna is pretty safe but I think if im going to be using the vtx antenna as a coat hanger in some random branch every weekend ( as i most probably will ) then I may as well get some disposable and not too expensive clovers until I can actually fly

If I decide to order the two vrx from gav, which will be safely on my teleporters and on my hubsan tx then I can just pick up a set of off the shelf vtx online.

i have some "bignose13" skews, and some immersion rc skews. the immersions are better for small multis as they are cased (mushroom style), so will stand some abuse.

For the one on the quad the plastic middle from a  kinder egg can be made into an excellent protective cover, the shape prevents snagging and crash damage
