Could a cloverleaf or similar help reduce interference

I am prepared to get some interference on a Boscam 7 inch monitor RX-LCD5802 and it comes with the straight antennas and there is a good chance that my 2.4 GHz DX8 TX will interfere with the 5.8 GHz monitor.

On some forums people have said that the Cloverleaf or similar type antennas have reduced this problem and some people also say using foil to prevent penetration of the interference can help but at this moment in time i am going to concentrate on the antenna because i feel that a better quality and different style of antenna may be a reduction or solution to this issue.

I don';t fully know how the Cloverleaf antenna works and why they say it helps although a member has given me a snippet of info but i would be grateful to know if fitting a Cloverleaf could be the answer.

Thanks Dave

What makes you say that?  Got a link?  The whole point of using 5.8GHz for FPV is so it doesn';t interfere with the 2.4GHz control link.  I';d be interested to see some real evidence of said interference.

I suppose it';s possible that the transmitter signal swamps the receiver due to close proximity, but I don';t think CP antennas would fix that.  Perhaps I';ll run my own test.  I have an older Boscam FPV monitor which I could strap on my Taranis to see what';s happening.

The main benefits of circular polarisation are multipath rejection and no cross-polarisation.  The latter happens on linearly polarised antennas (the bog standard sticks) when they are not in the same plane.  That is the geometric plane, not the aircraft.

Have a look at Mr. Windestål';s blog post here: http://rcexplorer.se/educational/2011/08/circular-polarization-explained  It';s a great primer on polarisation.

Watching those, my interference isn';t that bad. And only seems to do it while the quad is flying i think. I';ll do a test and upload a video if the misses will record lol.

These are some of the videos i have watched and the first one has a DX8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0T32VquuwHc and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GxUXqQ1aIc

Interesting.  I reckon that';s a problem specific to the monitor.  Shame the guy in the first video didn';t show his other monitor in comparison.

I wonder if this only happens on certain channels.  Perhaps choosing a different one would remedy it?

That was something i was thinking about and when mine arrives i will try different channels.

Hello Nic

What transmitter have you got.

I get interference when flying, can';t show right now, raining outside. But, it';s still flyable when it';s got interference.

But it';s not like those videos, where they get it straight off.

That would suggest interference on the VTX side.  Perhaps a LC filter would help, and/or swapping to CP antennas if you don';t have those yet.

Hopefully the Cloverleafs will help, but I do have a cheap camera with VTX.

Obviously this is all anecdotal, but my cheap camera goes absolutely berserk with electrical noise if my 2.4 antenna is anywhere near its shielded cable... Not interference with 5.8ghz, but definitely an interference issue in the line.

I saw somewhere that helical aerials have the best reception.  I bought one and am yet to try it but the improvement on YouTube was noticeable...
