FPV Goggles, i cant decide what to do...

At the moment i am FPV';ing through a 7" Monitor in a box to provide some shade which works just fine but light leak is present and a PITA and it';s not the best/brightest screen in the world, but it was cheap and it works...

I am starting to think i might buy another pair of goggles though, i had some FatShark AttitudeSD a while ago and i sold them on because i just could not get on with them at all, they worked well but i thought the image quality was poor and i just could not get them to fit well at all, obviously the latest is the Dominator V2, has the fitment changed between models over the years or are they still basically the same?

Things like the new Quanum and Headplay are an option i guess but i';m not overly keen on the neck strain of having a big box attached to my head, not fussed about looks as i mostly spend my FPV';ing time with a towel over my head and the monitor to keep some light out...

I dunno, just looking for a more compact solution i guess and £300 is a lot of money to sink in some Dominators if i hate the fit like i did with the AttitudeSD';s...

I think that best goggle fit is very subjective. Is it possible for you to meet up with some FPVers and try theirs?

Fatsharks seem to be the most popular by far and the few local people i know all have various models which seem mostly the same fit wise, i have seen some ';conversions'; for better fit to make the frame of the goggles sit on your face as opposed to the eye cups sitting round your eyes (which just doesnt seem to work for me), maybe i';ll look in to some of those mods a bit more to see what people have done, the new Quanum ';goggles'; are like £40, might be worth a punt on them just for the sake of it maybe...

I use Fatshark Predators and my friend uses the Headplay ones. He got them because he hates Fatsharks with a passion (he wears glasses). I found low level at speed difficult with the Headplay because my eyes were tracking all over the screen - it';s almost too big. If flying slow and high, they were brilliant for the beautiful vista of it all. Sharp and great at detecting contrast. I also found the good at close proximity flying, the sharpness allows you to see branches. Unfortunately, I';m crap and close prox so didn';t get much of a go like that. :)

Ha ha, i';m fairly new to the whole FPV 250 thing so have only done the high vistas in the past so i';m crap but i';m working on getting it lower and more controlled... lol

I';ve got attitude v2';s , I love them and although not perfect they(goggles not my particular model) are the best way to go.i started out trying FPV with a monitor and shield but due to the light leak found I couldn';t see that well, it was fine for flying high but no good for low level, TBH the setup was best used just before dusk lol.
My mate has some quanum v1';s and they worked just fine, I didn';t like them as much as ';proper'; goggles but they do deal with all the issues of using a monitor and do give you the immersed feel as you';re cut off from everything else. The new v2';s look very well thought out with pouches for vrx and battery, if I lost my fatsharks tomorrow I would buy the new quanums as I';m poor ATM otherwise the dominators would be my choice.

personally i';d hold off for the headplay';s, i';d like to try a single screen instead of the 2 screens you get in fatshark goggles, for me at times i have issues with the image kind of blurring and not being as sharp as i think it would be on a single screen.

everybody is different though.

I tend at some points, to go back to seeing two screens lol, it kinda makes it so much harder when seeing double lol.

i think i would like to test out a single screen, i think it would suit me far better.

I have just got the Quanum V2 unit. I haven';t flown yet (finished setting up last night, but, they are not heavy and the band over the top of the head makes a big difference over the V1 unit. I think I need to adjust the nose cutout but need to fly it first.

At £33 (I waited on the page before hitting "buy" and an offer popped up) with £18 delivery from China in 3 days, it was cheap enough for me to take the risk and I am pretty sure I can sell them in when I upgrade. The pouches on the "sock" are great, but the connecting leads aren';t exactly generous in length.

Hooked them up to a Boscam VRX and it seems to be ok.

Hope this helps and doesn';t confuse you even more!

PaulJC

Well, i';m gonna give the Quanum V2 unit a go, available from the Europe warehouse and with a buddy code i';ve just paid £36.59+P&P for them so a bargain really!

I also ordered the Multistar 250 case for all of a tenner :)

I was the same as you Paul.  Started off with the monitor on a tripod. Wasn';t a fan. Bought fat shark predator v2 and used the quanium screen.  Found it too close for me. I persevered with the goggles and bought the fs attitudes. Haven';t looked bk.

I';ll see how it goes with these, they are so cheap it';s no big deal if i hate them, another pair of FS or alternatives can always be an option...
