vtx 24hrs 7 days?

OK so not really on topic but thought someone might have tried.
I want to add a camera to my cctv but the cable route is nasty (water, gas and elec buried in walls).
So I was wondering if it would be possible to use a 5.8Ghz video transmitter from outside to the receiver indoors. It would mean being on 24hrs a day 7 days a week. Anyone know if normal vtx would stand that?

Any ideas?
Cheers
I try :-)

im thinking of doing the same mate, so ill let you know

i think the less power the better, maybe add a little pc fan and it should be ok

Chippercheese

I think that';s what the originals (the clunky Chinese 900mhz-5.8ghz type you can get on surveilzone) were actually designed for, RC flyes just adopted the tech for FPV. You might need some kind of cooling, but I reckon it could do OK.
TBS Discovery + ghetto printed gimbal, HovershipMHQ 1 & 2, QAV250, Turnigy Talon V2, chinese Alien500 thingie, 3d Printed Tricopter, Bix 3, Flyingwings.co.uk FalconEVO, Venturi EVO 1+2, Hornet Racing Wing, Radjet800 (by the dozen)... Permanent sucker for FPV, and lots and lots of OpenLR

Thinking same, bit of cooling but need to penetrate 3 Victorian walls and 2 floors. So I might need a bit of power  ::)
I try :-)

lol, you could go with 2.4 then that should be ok

i only have one wall to penetrate ::)

Depends on what 2.4 GHz frequencies are available.  If you can go below 2.4 GHz or above 2.48 GHz you';re outside the WiFi B band.  Pick a frequency above 5.7 GHz and you won';t interfere with the WiFi A band.

As BG said, if you intend to run these 24/7 cooling is a must.  At the very least a heatsink, possibly a heatsink-fan combo.  Depending on your VTX they can run quite hot, and I don';t think they were designed to run 24/7.  A lower powered VTX might be better if it gives you enough reach as it will be cooler.

Would suggest going for a WiFi based solution as 5.8 would be a bit easy for others to view (and it may provide others with the ability to tell what';s going on around your property)

The WiFi option leaves things a bit more discrete (for want of a better term)
Not much kit, but what I have I like
Armattan Tilt 2, Morphite 180, Quark 150, Decapitated NanoQX

Good point. Problem is going wifi won';t allow me to connect to my cctv recorder. I really need to be able to record. Today, had kids damage drainage pipes on shared drive. Luckily I was out and reversed over the pipes (long story but not good rear visibility in car). So I was able to repair before major damage was done! I have a good idea who it was but video footage would have been very handy
You are quite right about security aspect but it would only be covering shared driveway (with other owners permission), so it';s something that is on public view anyway. So not too much of a problem, no windows in shot just drive and street.

Cheers.

thought i';d list a few vtx with built in cooling, all seem a bit pricey mind.
they all seem too powerful or too expensive, the fan seems the way to go, stick it on a little 200mw vtx
Nice list, thanks very much. Gives me some ideas.
I try :-)

or you could go for a 12v laptop cooling fan, would be more in keeping with the sizes involved.
