My 690 is now a 782

A little trim of the afro heatshrink and the ESC fits nicely

I';m considering plastidiping my ESC rather than using heatshrink

Hi Ewan. Have you ordered your leg lock parts yet? I';ve managed to find a UK supplier for them and at a reasonable price too.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tarot-Hexacopter-Folding-Landing-TL68B24/dp/B00F9097RI

I';ve not bought them yet or ordered from him before so let me know how you get on please mate. ;) ~~
A check on the seller and he';s from China, not UK !!!

Fletch

Ordered m2.5 x 10 grub screws today to mount the bottom rails to the new spacers....

Nice Allen head machined in the end so should be able to tighten them better and get full penetration (phnarr phnarr) than a cut off tarot bolt

Fletch

ESCs wires lengthen and threaded into the mounts

Fletch

Couple more of the ESCs mounted and wires how I think I';m gonna mount them

Fletch

That';s the bottom rails stood off

Paulham

How comes you dropped the gimbal rails down?

Great standoffs on the battery/gimbal rail!

~~ ~~

The question is why!?

Fletch

Space for the battery dist and BEC rather than mounting in between the boards...
Also trying to maintain a good separation...  No sure how that is going to go as the board loads up

Also takes the gimbal down away from the props

jomk63

I dropped my rails down for two reasons : 1.  I';ve got 6 ESCs on the bottom plate  2. to reduce /eliminate the props in shot from my gopro

Agree - those standoffs look nice   ~~

Fletch

I put the longer 680 mounts on so my ESCs are on the bottom arms

I need to order motors and pixhawk but it';s been an expensive month already...  As it';s coming to the end if summer I';m not going to rush.   If i have it flying by March next year with a gimbal I';ll be a happy boy!

So I got me one of these too, a 680 Pro, and I';m wondering and researching components and I';ve found motors from Tarot, Emax and Vici, all around 600kV. Does anyone have any experience with Vici motors from Helipal? They look good, a bit like Tigers and £34 a piece isn';t bank breaking.

Also as mentioned above would I be better off looking at Hobbywing rather than SimonK ESCs, will they better maintain sync with pancake motors?

Also been looking at props and was wondering what thoughts people have on Tarots blended tip carbon two hole props, at around £16 a pair they';re a decent price. They claim to be well balanced out of the factory and the up turned tip reducing drag is inline with current aircraft thinking.

I got a set of the Storm camera positioning rods and battery trays from Helipal too and for anyone who wants to use an H3-3D mounted on rods it looks like a winner.

Just my thoughts, feel free to share yours, cheers...

I have a 680pro running hobbywing 30A opto escs which seem great.

The props are 1355 tarot ones which are nice. They needed a bit of balancing out of the box but othewise nice quality. Just make sure you don';t get the cheaper copies. The 12" ones aren';t as efficient on 600kv motors IMHO (I ran them to start with). Had shorter flight times with little change in current draw.

As for the Emax mt3510';s I can';t recommend them. They look nice. Come in nice boxes with all the kit & seem to fly well, but I';ve had bearings fail on 3 of them in 3hrs flight, & have play reappearing in one motor after less than a further hour. One original bearing was rusty & the motor bell bearing seat was corroded which must have happened in manufacture, storage or transit. My uk supplier isnt interested in doing anything as says they are cheap quality motors& I should look elsewhere if I want better quality,  better balanced motors!
They suggested Tigers unsurprisingly.

Hi, It seems i have a similar set up to you,  but have noticed that when yawing the hex looses altitude very quickly.  I have a feeling that it might be something to do with the pitch on the 13x5.5 props.

Have you noticed anything similar?

No not with mine.
The throttle is very responsive though so it will lose altitude if I yaw and slightly affect/adjust the throttle.

The only time I lost altitude suddenly was doing a Tx loss Naza failsafe check...turning the Tx back on to regain control I got the throttle position alarm on the F10J so dropped the throttle to zero...... & had to raise it in a big hurry!
I won';t be making that error again  :whistling:

So my 450 is built, my 250 is built

Now back to the 690 ....

Mmmm...Nice.. :eating:

Seriously, I';ve settled on Emax motors now, although I have 4 torx power motors, which I believe are rebadged T-Motor';s.  The emax';s are the right price for me and what I do, (from BG that is!) and are smooth but powerful.
Still, yes, they are nice motors.

I also now use nowt but the T-motor full carbon props, pricey, but if you don';t do stuff that';s likely to smash them up, they are superb (actually they';re pretty tough as well!).

Keep it emax, capiche?
Hardware? sure, I got hardware!

Fletch

These TMotors are cheaper than the sunnyskys and rc timer motors I was looking at.

They are slightly smaller but tmotor has a good reputation for kit

Jesus that external LED is bright

Fletch

The 10mm tubes were crap ... So I made them stronger with 9mm dowel and gorilla glue.  Time will tell if it works, they seem much stronger now

Fletch

Almost ready to fly ...
One ESC is playing up and not cooperating!

May swap them out for something else yet !

Any recommendations for 40a ESCs?
