Looking for another lipo but which one ?

Hi folks

I am soon to purchase a second lipo so I can use one and have another on charge because at the moment I only have a Turnigy nano tech 1500 mAh.

I will not be running any FPV doing no punch outs or any heavy stuff so I am looking for thoughts on which lipo to buy and I was thinking larger than 1500 mAh this time so I can have longer flight times and one that does not cost the crown jewels.

You wouldn';t go far wrong with these but watch postage - if you need a few other odds and ends make up the weight!
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__31976__ZIPPY_Compact_1800mAh_3S_25C_Lipo_Pack_UK_Warehouse_.html

I have just done a test for two of these and it went from £16 up to £21 with shipping i think i will see if i can get postage cheaper.

What';s it for buddy, 250 quad? I';ve used a 2200 3s 30c on mine and it was fine for steady flying. ~8-10mins flight time. But of course the extra weight is noticeable.

Here you go  - post free but.....

look to add some useful bits - wire, connectors, led anything but keep within the weight allowance for the postage!

Dave, i started off using 1800 3 cell Zippy compact';s with my homebuilt 250, even with gopro and fpv cam on, i was getting 10 mins flight time, with emax 1806 motors and 5x4 props, just to give you an idea, they are pretty cheap from HK too.

Just pootling around really.

Hi flybywire

I was on the bay earlier and put a zippy 1800 in my watch list and being as you are getting that much flight time on the same motors and props as me then that will do for me mate.  ~~

I use nothing less than 40C rated cells on quads. Been caught too many times.
Nothing worse than watching your quad dive away because the battery can';t hack it.
I wont use Compacts any more. They puff too soon.

Read this post before buying Compacts. http://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php?topic=13860.0

kilby

Definitely go for higher C ratings, I have ZC 35c 1500s and they are warm to the touch after a flight and I am not in any way pushing my 250 to any extent in 5x3 props.

I have a couple of higher rated ones that I will be trying if lack of rain ever coincides with low winds
Not much kit, but what I have I like
Armattan Tilt 2, Morphite 180, Quark 150, Decapitated NanoQX

To be fair, thats thread proves nothing anyway, i have Used Compacts for ages now, plus compacts for all the fixed wing, even the Visionaire which is battery hungry, and i have no issues at all with them puffing.

Ditto, used on my 450 quad and all of my Planes that take 3S 2200 and only 25C; OK on my quad I';ve got some 30-40C Turnigy blues that are more punchy but both perform well enough!

JT

The larger the battery capacity the lower the C rating you can get away with, however the higher the C rating the better really. As for size of battery I have tried a 2200 3s on a 250 a few times and although it flew, it felt heavy in the air and wasn';t as much fun to fly.
I used 1300mah when I was on 3s, these were light, very cheap and if flying steadily I would get about 6 minutes from each, and if flying hard it would drop to about 4 and a half minutes. Coming in to swap a battery after 5-6 minutes isn';t that much hassle is it lol?

Got to admit I have been put off zippy lipos, the last 3x1800 4s I bought have been awful, 2 have bad cells and the last starts the lipo buzzer going after a minute or so flying. Maybe I should man up and take them apart to see if I can make a good one or two but they scare me

Big difference using batteries on a single motor plane to a Quad. I have several quads and will NOT use less than 40C. Some draw 60 amps and some draw 40 amps. You can argue all you like but I speak from experience and stand by what I say. At the same time, everyone here can make their own choices and it doesn';t concern me at all but the OP asked the question......

At least reference to what i said ? i said "plus" compacts on all the Fixed wings. i said that, because they are in use on my 250`s, my Wookong, My Phantom and my 450 quad.

i really would like to know who is arguing ? your speaking from your experience yes, so i am speaking from mine ? am i not allowed to ? is your experience the only one that matters or something ?  so yes, if we are talking from experiences, again i have no issues with Compacts, as do many others also, my point was, just because some have problems, not everyone else does.

Lipos are not cut and dried, with everyones differing usage, there are no guarantees advising a  battery, only give comments based around using them.

Other people besides yourself are allowed to voice thier experiences also, the forum is not restricted to just yours i dont think.

So ... aimed at the last bit, when you replied, no one else should have bothered ? only your post matters ? and when someone else speaks from thier "experiences" you deem it arguing ?

for the most part with Lipos, its not down to who makes them, its down to luck of the draw.

Next time, i will remember to PM you my froum responses, in case its different from your experience, hmmm, if everyone did that, probably not much to see on here.....sorry, but you really need to realise its a forum where peoples "experiences" are not always the same, and one persons "experience" will not necessarily be someone elses....

Before this turns into another he said/he misread thread lets get back on point.

If you just want longer flight times then a 1800-2200mah (30c minimum) is what you';re after. They will give you the times you want for steady flight.

What brand you choose is up to you. Zippy Compact, Turnigy Blue or Nano-Techs are the standard choices.

Just to chime in with my experiences... Zippy Compact 1500mah 25c - not good. I actually ordered these by accident as I was looking at the 35c varients, looked elsewhere then came back and big Buy without double checking. These sag really early, especially with puchouts, on 1806/5030/500g AIW. I use them for my goggles now, so not so much of a waste. The 35c Zippy 1500s have been fine though. Set my timer for 5 minutes and go crazy.

Certainly , i wouldnt use 25C, they sag early in the planes also, but from 35C ones, even on the 250`s, no, im not racing, but they pretty much perform well to the point of bringing it in.
