Before I buy one of these little gadgets, I just wanted to run it by some of you. Now I understand the implications of using the remote with the copter in the air and the 2.4Ghz implications, but the idea would be to simply to switch on the remote while the quad is on the ground, make any adjustments and then switch off the remote before taking off again. This would eradicate the awkwardness I find when trying to change camera settings with the thing attached to the quad. Bending over, holding the thing with one hand while trying to adjust the camera with the other, kneeling down, squinting at the screen with the sun out! I think I';ve made my point, just thought I';d see if anyone else does this or if in fact I may be missing something, cheers. BTW and this is a real newbie question, which I think I know the answer to, but I';ll ask anyway... even if the hand remote is switched off, would it still be OK to fly with the camera';s receiver switched on? Cheers

Probably best not to Howard.  Especially if you';re only using it on the ground.  I have used the WiFi in the air, without issue, but TBH it was not usable as any kind of down-link because of the delay (3 seconds at least).  You could use it for framing, but then again, if you have fpv anyway, why would you need it?

So, yes, use it on the ground by all means to change settings if it helps, but turn it off before flying!

Hi Andy, sure, that is my intention. Use it on the ground, turn off and fly! I was just wondering if anyone finds it a useful addition. Trying to crouch down in the dirt or squint down at the camera in full sun comes with it';s problems!

Sure, I hear you Howard!  TBH, I don';t really change settings that much on mine, although I can see it';s usefulness, especially if you are switching between video/still modes etc often.  If it helps you, use it!

I did that with mine, as even with my Glasses on, Gopro screens are certainly not the best idea with the camera, but i gave up doing that, i now just have it in the video mode i use most, and for stills, i just run the video through what i use for editing and pinch snapshots out of the video.

I';ve been using one since I started and range is really the only downside.

BUT, save your money....

Download the GoPro app for your phone. I got it for my android and it has all the same features as the remote plus you can see a live feed of the video. It';s just as simple, connect your phone to the GoPro';s wifi, hit connect, and you';re good to go. Really though, the Gopro App makes the remote obsolete.

I have a GoPro Remote and the app on my phone, other than when I need to turn the camera on or off or change settings on a wet/hostile environment, I will always use the app ahead of the remote. It';s so much easier to change the settings!

That was going to be my suggestion.
I had the go pro remote when I had a hero3+ before it died, I hardly used the remote just the app. But does the wifi still affect the multirotar if it is still switched on but not in use?

I';ve never had any issues with the wifi at least. I use futaba diversity and I';ve never had so much as a glitch while flying except the one time my failsafe kicked in flying over a 150m tall hill (turns out mountains block radio signals).

Just because anecdotally a few people have got away with it doesn';t make it a good idea. Yes the gopro still transmits on 2.4GHz when the remote is off, and at close proximity to a sensitive receiver you risk swamping, spread spectrum or not.
