Dino's ZMR 250 Build

Dino

So, I finished my first ever quad build about a month ago and thought that it was about time I pulled my finger out and posted it!!

Components list:
CF ZMR 250 frame
Overcraft Batch 2 integrated PDB
DYS BE1806 2300 KV Motors
ZTW Spider 12A opto ESCs
Emax 3A UBEC with noise filtering
CC3D
3D printed frame spacer set from Phil
HQ 5030 props
ZIPPY Compact 1500mAh 3S 35C
Flysky 6ch Rx
And various other odds and sods

I decided to place the ESCs between the frame plates to make for a neater build, unfortunately I didn';t take as many pics as I should, or you';d be able to see that i had a slight issue with fitting the ZTWs in there.  Although they';re tiny, the capacitor placement means that you can';t fit them in a 2x2 configuration with the spacers. I ended up with 2 in the middle and one each front and back.

I plaited the motor wires and used some clear heat shrink tubing to hold them in place. I soldered them to the ESC wires as this was my first build and I didn';t want to kill the ESCs and wanted to have the excess wire to keep my options open if I decided to change things up. (Will solder the motors directly to the ESCs once the Overcraft v3 PDB turns up!)

Using the Overcraft PDB made wiring up fairly simple and uber neat (although it';s better suited for ESC on arm placement, the Nucleus board would be even neater with the solder points under the board!)

When fitting the CC3D I used some CA glue to attach some M3 nylon nuts to the case which gives just enough clearance to get the servo leads through and makes it nice and easy to secure to the frame.  I also numbered all the the servo connectors and shrink wrapped the CC3D harness cable for neatness.

I used heat shrink tubing on the standoffs and main power lead for aesthetics, and on the antenna to fix it to a zip tie and keep it vertical.  I also used electrical tape on the reverse and sides of the battery just because I was getting a bit OCD about the black theme! (CC3D case colour is killing me lol)

All in all I think things went quite well, she flies ok on stock CC3D settings and looks fairly pretty (in my slightly biased opinion)!

Things left to do:
Attach FPV gear
Fit Overcraft v3 PDB (when it arrives)
Shorten main power, motor and ESC cables (will do it with the new PDB)
Acquire some liquid electrical tape for all the connections
Buy and fit MinimOSD with KV Team mod (For new PDB)
Will probably fit the Flip32 (that I ordered on a whim while they were cheap!) when the new PDB arrives
Buy and fit a Mobius (low priority due to funds)

No videos unfortunately as I';m flying solo at the moment and only have the one pair of arms lol!

Very nice, Dino.  I like the braided motor wires.  I would have done the same (or used a wire mesh) if I had the ESCs between the plates.

Heatshrink on the standoffs is a brilliant idea!  How did you find the standoffs in terms of clearance around the drill hits?  Mine were just touching the solder mask so I out nylon washers between the standoffs and plate.

Have a look at this OSD module.  Mine';s on the way, currently held for ransom by Royal Mail.  :-/

I';d already read about the standoff issues on the RCGroups thread so I didn';t take any chances and just ordered some nylon washers to be on the safe side.  I did consider using mesh or even heat shrink for the motor wires, I think it was just a case that i didn';t have any and wanted to get them on as quickly and neatly as I could! (I';m way too impatient sometimes!)

I did see that OSD and like the look of it, but the Overcraft v3 PDB is designed for the full fat version. You can see the mounting position in this pic:

I reckon I could bodge the smaller on in but I think the original will be neater.

What was the damage on the micro including postage & customs?

Lovely job There Dino.. Like how you have braided the wires from the motors, looks super neat.
I wouldn';t worry about the CC3D case.. My missus complained the bright pink case around my Naze didn';t go, I told her it the quads accent colour lol.

look forward to some video.

I just realised the ransom is for some Kickstarter thing I backed aeons ago.

I ordered $50 worth of bits from Witespy which included $10 shipping and handling.  I';ll let you know if there';s any customs charge.

Cool, sounds fairly reasonable (unless the customs fascists get to it!)

I';ll probably switch to the Flip32 full once the new PDB arrives as I think it will take full advantage of  the board.
The hunt for a black Flip32 case begins! :wack0
