MINI-H BUILD - The last Teslahed MINI H MK3

Gav

Had a hanger reshuffle and sold some models to make way for new builds and one of them was to be a Mini H for acro fpving.

I';ve followed Chris';s journey developing his Mini - H design and really liked the look of the MK3 version so much, I bought one - THE LAST one too!  Cheers Chris!

Almost completed fitting my radio and fpv gear, but just need to raise the Naze32 board a little with longer hex spacers.  This is so I can get to the mini USB port as it';s blocked by the Vtx unit at the moment.  Should be ready for the maiden tomorrow I think.

Some pics:

I have to do my FPV wiring at some point (it would have been fine if I hadn';t added a MinimOSD)

However I used a right angle USB adaptor to give me access to the USB port without having to either stress the socket or remove the RX all the time.

Also figures that it will also cut down on the Naze USB sockets wear and tear

That';s definitely looking good Gav - can';t wait to see it in the air. Hope you have a lot of fun with it ~~

There';s a command that let';s you rotate the board by 90 degrees and let it know to rotate the sensors in software so that everything still works;

https://github.com/multiwii/baseflight/wiki/CLI-Variables

Quotealign_board_yaw = 90

I think that';s it. If you try it you';ll see the board';s response alter in the baseflight chrome app so that it thinks sideways is the new forwards.

Of you can take kilby';s approach and use a usb 90 degree adapter instead. Either options works fine.

ah haaaa  cheers

ps  bugger just been to maplins and got some longer hex spacers lol

Resisted rotating mine as the esc';s are on 90° pins and I didn';t want to have those poking out of the side of the quad

I';m just about to start rewiring my personal Mini H teslaquad now that i';ve received all new lighter silicon cables for the signal wires and a crimp tool to get everything as neat as possible. Hoping to save some weight - will take before and after pics with weighing scales underneath.

I must say i';m now having a closer look at Gavs wiring to gain a little inspiration before i start  ~~

Lol well don';t look to close.   likewise got a crimp tool and crimps comming too, so I can shorten the esc to naze servo wires.

Cheers for the link by the way.

Waiting for props still.  boo hoo never arrived today.  I bust one as it clipped the wdr 600 camera mount.

Oh well no excuse to do more diy on the house now.

Post man watching Monday morning though!!

Puts mine to shame

I do have to get a extension lead so I can move my video tx to somewhere more sensible and that should let me create a sensible layout (at last)

Can make you a link cable if you want?  Protects the vtx in the event of a crash too ::).

I have to get some proper antennas too but it';s a week or so till I have any cash <sulk>

Disassembled mine today and started the rebuild. Got to this point;

Hopefully finished tomorrow.

OK so spare props arrived today and also a crimp tool.  Shortened the esc wires down to neaten it up,  finished off clamping the Mobius camera and added lipo Velcro strap.
2 x 4 min hovers in the garden and all is well!!  FPV flight soon  ::)

That looks great Gav, can';t wait to see you FPV it :smiley:

One thing i was going to ask - any chance you can make me an FPV transmitter extension cable like yours? I should need one the same length in theory.

I made myself one but ran out of the necessary connectors so had to use a right angle connector for one of the ends. It';s not perfect as a result - puts too much tension on the top plate which is causing me a little jello in some of my videos and messing up my wiring at the back slightly.

I will have to check pin polarities when i get home as i can';t remember exactly what i';m using off hand.

I';m happy to pay a few quid or so for the thing. No worries if not - thanks.

I can make one for £9.50 delivered.  I would have to drive into town and get the deck mount connector from maplin, so hence the price tag.  I have the cable and vtx connector in stock though.

I have my vtx on some double sided foam then a little loop of cable on the link cable -so hopefully that won';t transmit too many vibs up to the top plate?  We shall see.

Can I raise a hand for a lead too please

I actually need to order a full antenna set, but it seems my beloved wife has already eaten into my antenna fund

And after looking at the nice tidy build that I would dye up some extra nylon bits in case the weather improves.

So I manage to get the right shade of purple first time and I';m not happy.

Why ?

Because I was supposed to dye the parts RED

That';s why you shouldn';t do stuff like that after being in work for over 10 hours :(

Finally got some hours to tinker and 4 working AFRO 12A ESC';s now installed into the mini H.  Updated all the firmware on the escs';s and Naze32 - PID';s all sorted - time to dust off the  Dominator FPV goggles and get flying - hopefully Weds. this week weather permitting.

Couple of extra mods to stop the front props clobbering the camera plate (on a bumpy or over exuberant landing) and also a main power wire holder.

Looking good every time I see the nice antennas poking up I want to sell my DX7S and get a Tranaris

Well I use a Futaba 9TC with frsky module and frsky receiver. Normally I get a beep beep if the  signal is getting weak but last time I flew out of range and straight into failsafe before any warning.  Replaced the receiver now and have the receiver antenna poking out of the tops of the little supporting tubes too.  personally I think my old rx was foobarred and the telemetry was kaput.  I';ll wrap some tin foil over it to see if I can trigger low signal in the house before flying off into the great yonder.    Few little things to sort then ready to go.

Gav

First flights in the openness with new FC fitted.  Wanted to try out the roll and flip rate.  Naze32 now binned in favour of CC3D - this board is working to my liking although the flip n roll rate is restricted at the mo!

this year I want to fly more so hoping to improve and enjoy the flying.

Looks like it';s flying well and you';ve got video with zero jello!

Cheers Chris yes it';s flying very well and feels safe.  Banggood 5x4 props at the mo and a bunch of spare ones from phil makeitbuildit once I use up these ones(never balanced a prop ever) and your anti vib design top plate is doing it';s job well too. I also velcro the mobius on the top plate which soakes up any residual vibration.  A cable tie is used to secure the mobius but it';s loosely zipped down.  If its done up tight then more likely to get jello.
