How does everyone secure their batteries in their quad/hex?

Ive now finnished  the 680 pro and mounting the battery but im not comfortable with it being strapped against the 4 screws holding the battery plate on .......... or have i just done it wrong?

Friskle

If screws/ bolt heads in the way, i usually just stick a thin piece of foam over them, or even double sided foam tape over them.

I was just thinging that but with two Turnigy straps on it still slips about ........ any ideas how to secure it?

KillerDave

What about sticking foam to the underside of the battery to give the straps something to grip???

Sticking Velcro strips between the quad and battery will protect it from screws and stop it skipping round

I had a problem with wandering batteries so my solution was to use some adhesive Velcro, I attached one side to the battery and the other to the inside of the strap as there wasn';t mush frame to adhere to.

I use small strips of the non slip car boot liners you can get, its a similar material to the little grip mats you can get for mobile phones on car dashboards, you then only have to lightly tighten the Velcro straps and its held very securely

Sticky backed Velcro.

Look round, the amount i got from the local market, i could have made a fortune from selling it in 200mm lengths lol, always felt a bit akward going to the Dress making stall though lol

Another vote for sticky back velcro, although it can be a bit of a double edge sword as I found when trying to get the buggers off again   :whistling:

I read using an old credit card helps to get them apart again..

It';s even worse if you';ve got different Velcro like some of mine have - at the moment I';m having problems with the Velcro that';s got the strongest adhesive and grab pulling the other off when I change batteries - note to self Buy some new velcro!!!

SteveMcK

Velcro it is.
Will keep you posted in how it works out.

Thanks  ~~

Try Dual lock Velcro from 3m. Its like a Lego version of Velcro. Once you try it you will never use anything else.

Hands0n

Velcro ~~  Been using it since day one. It helps to pad the battery away from the air frame and keeps it from sliding about.  It doesn';t have to be super strength. The LiPo strap is going to keep the battery against the air frame. The velcro is going to stop it slip-sliding.

I wouldn';t mount a battery using Velcro only.  :o

On my 250 it';s velcro and a regular velcro strap.

The Velcro I use is for fly fishing spools and has stretch to it also has a rubbery back so literally no battery movement at all its good stuff I think the company is called wychwood hope this helps very good for 250s no chance of battery bail out ~~

Chami82923

Velcro the battery to the frame (screwfix - 5m for £6 when I got mine) then Velcro straps (2 of) over the battery, haven';t lost a battery yet! So it must work.

+1 for the velcro and strap approach. I';ve got a faiirly chunky 10Ah battery on a CF plate under my 450, there';s three strips of heavy duty velcro (from Hobbycraft, iirc - £9 for a big roll, I';m still on my first one). The velcro is rated to 50kg, purportedly, so with three strips presumably a bit more than that - but dynamic loads may still exceed that, so I';ve also got a velcro strap around the plate and battery. If the plate comes off all bets are off, but that';s attached securely to the load bars. The ';weak spot'; in my quad is that the load bars are only attached to the main plates by four M2.5 screws - but they';re in securely, further secured with some threadlock, and I';ve observed no issues or movement so far. It';s worked for a while now. Holding out for payday - then it';s time to buy a new set of ESCs/motors and a Tarot X6, so I can have all sorts of new and interesting problems to worry about!

What I can';t find is velcro straps long enough to go over a battery as chunky as the 10Ah 4S Multistars. Phil';s excellent straps just about manage it but with only an inch or so of velcro securing it to itself, which is a bit marginal!

Rustydiver

Soft Velcro on the hex top, a few hard strips on the back off the battery.
I';ve got some hefty hard cased 4s 5000ma batteries, I can adjust where they fix depending if I got my gopro fitted or not for the cog then 2 Gert mahoosive straps to strap it down.
Works a treat.

You could go for some rap straps, or even the heavy duty versions that they make.

Ive done it the other way round only because I guessed the ';';hard';'; is the hooks and could pick up bits and pieces of fluff when gettting moved about when you go to charge it

Just a thought though

I had more soft than hard.

Suppose that';s what happens when you get old.  :wack0

I had some big strips 3 inches wide by about 10inches soft stuff in the garage.
