Lipo/GoPro mounting tray for 550 hexa

I had an idea to get my gopro mounted more satisfactorily (on my clone hexa), and also move the lipo down underneath to lower the C of G into the bargain.  I liked David Windestal';s (RC Explorer.se) idea of his tri lipo tray, so in a nod to his design, I set about fangling one for my self.

Richard had put me on to some new (for me) material called Delryn (Acetal) which was tough, flexible and easily cut with the laser.  I managed to get hold of a sheet of the stuff, but think I may have paid over the odds, so if I use the stuff again, I';ll spend a little more time on the sourcing of said Acetal!

I sketched it up using Techsoft 2D design, exported it as a dxf file, and sent it over to Richard to get things tidied up a little, and voila!

Here';s the cardboard prototype I made first to check mounting hole alignment, with the first cut from Acetal:

Unfortunately, due to the tech not having cut this material before, we had to faff around a little to get the correct laser power etc, added to te fact that the sheet was slightly bowed, meant that the first cut left some of the cuts  slightly shallow, and I broke the side mounts in the process.  Ho-hum!
Next time I';ll make sure it goes through cleanly.  :crossfingers:

THis is how it will sit:

It';s funny, this design malarkey.  I started out thinking in terms of wire suspension, like David';s original, but then contemplated using rubber standoffs, both having the lipo & camera on top of the plate, but have now rather fancied fixing the carrier with small anti vide cotton reel type mountings (about 10mm deep) and having the lipo & camera suspended underneath the carrier.  I think that';s the way forward.  It';ll be easier to remove/replace the lipo';s, and will end up being of a lower form factor than being suspended.

Good news is that this material (which is 3mm thick in this case) is panning out to be quite useable for multirotor frames, it does have a certain flexibility with it, so not sure if that';s a good or bad thing?  For what I';m using here, it';s perfect, I would need to test out the frame idea on my Wasp 250 design to get a real world comparison.
If it does, and I can find a cheaper source, that';ll be a bowl full of cool!

Cheers

Andy

forgot to mention, it';s 84 g.

After a bit of a faff, I managed to get a second cut of the Delryn, which has turned out quite well.  The holes lined up perfectly, all I had to do was drill them out to 3mm to accommodate the 2.5mm arm fastening bolts.

I intended the camera to sit on the plate, but after pondering the field of view, not only would the props show, but the fpv cam would be obscured too.

I have a few more pics, but between post image and my browser, i'm losing the will to live with it, so maybe another day.
I think you get the general idea.  If you want to make one for yourself, PM me and I'll mail you the DXF file to modify to your heart's content.

So, a quick mod of something I made earlier...

It was part of my homebrewed gimbal mount for the Xugong that I conjured up from G10, but didn';t need in the end.  I knew it would come in handy.

If it eliminates all traces of the vibrations, then it';ll be a great mod, and I thoroughly endorse having the lipo mounted underneath, longitudinal, as opposed to transverse.

It all stacks up to be one nice flyable beast, with a touch of AP thrown in for good measure.
