Thought I had it sorted a few days ago finished the build, connected with laptop to setup on GCS everything went as it should, all motor spin up going the correct direction. Tryed a test fight in kitchen and it just flipped over straight away.

Got the right props on each motor?

calibrated the accelerometer, and leave the quad still for 10 seconds after power up?
Round By Round Qualifying and Finals For All.

it just makes sense

Don';t be giving up, most of the time it';s the wrong prop, a motor turning in the wrong direction, flight controller rotated or a prop on upside down

We have all been there
Not much kit, but what I have I like

James your like "THAT" close to the fun you speak of.. I will repeat my offer.. I';m happy to come up and help if you want.. I';m off for the next 2 days.. like the others have said it will be something very very minor now..

Nige..

P.S just PM me if you want me to come and help

Yeah I';ve checked and tried all the above over and over.
Motors all spin the correct direction, props all on the correct way, I did rotate the FC for better access to the mini usb port but made changes in the settings in GCS and confirmed that the horizon is moving correctly.
Once again Nige a very kind offer thankyou, I really have lost interest now after way to many problems for me to ever trust flying it.

Tried a few times now with the same result
I';ve give up on it to be honest as it was becoming stressful the exact opposite of what it was meant for. I';ve decided I';ll move back to a plane as I';ve had much better results and I can use my newly purchased FPV kit on that.

I was hoping for more fun out of this hobby but all I get is headaches

I wish you luck Nige setting up your flying club and thanks for your help.  ~~

Anyone want to buy a 250 quad?  ;)
Hold up dude! Your being too rash, there is bound to be somthing your missing, have a break from it all, then pick it up again, this always gets me started again!

Ive been watching your progress closely and always said to myself I hope I can get to or even reach the same point you have, so I am really gutted to hear your close to throwing in the towel with your quad.

Shelves it then pick it up in a week, I know you wont regret.

I totally agree.. dont give up.. were not building off the shelf things here.. they are self builds every one is different and unique.. I had similar problems.. then my TX wouldn';t bind, that turned out to be a a simple jumper setting.. then I couldnt get it to arm.. but with a little patience a lot of hair pulling and help off this forum.. I';ve now experienced THE best flying fun I have ever had..

and you james are so close.. it will be a couple of settings and a little tweak here and there thats all.. but when its your first time these seem like mountains.. but once sorted you will know for next time.. i';m on my second build now and I';m wizzing through it..

Have faith its well worth it

The clone quad has been shelved and don';t think it will be taken off for some time. I may decide to try again I may not
I';ve moved back to planes as I have flown them years ago and fancied a FPV plane.

I';d like to say thankyou to you all for the help I';ve received on this forum and maybe I';ll be back soon to pester you all again with questions.

Regards James

I';m still having problems too James, It would seem emax uses winding wire for the connection wires on their motors which makes it impossible to solder if you have to cut the wire. Phil has offered to have my motors back and see what the deal is so I will let you know if I ever get mine flying!!

Take care dude and keep up with it, just one last thought are the props on the right way round?

if this was an MMORPG I would say can I have your stuff. LOL

you just need to use a lighter to melt the coating off the wire before soldering.

I';ve tried that Paul and it wont come off enough to make a good connection so instead of the motors spinning the just buzz or skip. Phil is going to see if he can do anything with them or replace them for me I think. At the moment I have a lovely paper weight lol.

I';ve just had mine out in the garden to see if it flies. Lifts off and hovers fine but stutters when I pitch or roll. Could it be to do with me setting up the esc';s as 400hz vs 50 in GCS? Or is it more likely to do with dodgy solder joints?

Ignore me.  Just realised I';ve not actually calibrated the ESCs....

I have had similar problem with motor wires, the insulation on them was not like the usual lacquer , I tried melting it but it refused to solder.I then tried a really nasty flux  that is for silver soldering stainless steel .Still no joy. In the end I cut the wire a bit further back and put it under a illuminated magnifier and scraped it back wire by wire. It  then soldered.
I don';t know what the coating is but I could really use a tin of it for corrosion proofing metal. The idea of it still adhering to the wire after its burnt maybe to preserve the insulating properties  even if it overheats, Mineral insulated industrial cable uses a similar system.

The few times I';ve worked with enamelled copper winding wire I';ve found that scrapping the costing off with a Stanley knife the most effective method.

Yeah, it is horrible stuff, made the mistake of cutting some motor wires a while back, nightmare!  Nearly slung them out, but persevered in the end.

As Danny says, scraping the wires with a blade seems to be the only way, the old burning dodge that worked with copper shellac doesn';t work with these bad-uns.  I tried my best non acids flux too, no joy.  I imagine the manufacturers use acid or other hazardous substance!?

I found this on another forum:
