Hey!  If you want a Taranis, RadioC have them for £134.99 for a week apparently!  Is that good?

Hardware? sure, I got hardware!

The.Quadfather

depends if postage included or not !

been £134 for a while @ GiantShark

could be old stock - GS has had improved parts (eg) available so maybe newer ones are better (?)

cgcrute

The RadioC one is the new Taranis Plus...

in that case: probably is a good deal !

I must have not been payin'; attention, but it seems they now don';t include the case  :(

cgcrute

They dropped that with the version 2 and the X8R. The case is functional but crap. You have seen the sodding great holes in mine haven';t you?

Can anyone tell me what the difference between the 8XR and  FrSky D8R-II Plus 8ch 2.4Ghz ACCST Receiver (with telemetry) as sold by RadioC and does it matter??

They are offering free postage as well!!

Royston

Anyone any advice re best receiver to use with Taranis? ?

Both are excellent
depends what your flying ?
if its a 250 quad your probably better off with the dr4II
Carbon Tricopter with KK2 mini because you have to own a Tri and Falcon Evo FPV (rebuild again) with fatshark 600mw vtx & pz2040 cam. New addition (hidden from the missus!) 250 quad.

Royston

Thanks for the reply.
Flying mainly Phltrums Quadvolution 450 size, Flip 360 and Blade 350 QX so a bit of a mix really.
Wasn';t sure if tye the 8XR was 16 ch and the other only 8??

V series are regular
D series have telemetry the 8';s have 8 PWM channels and 8 Channels over CPPM, the 4';s have 4 PWM channels and 8 Over CPPM
X series are the new SPort/SBus ones.  The 8 has 8 PWM and 16 SBus; the 6 has 6 PWM and 16 SBus; and there are 2 4';s one has 3 PWM and 16 SBus the other is just 4 PWM and no SBus.

I';ve been using a D8R-ii plus on my 450 and a D4R-ii on my v-tail ... I use the CPPM mode on both with the 27ms firmware for 8 channels (technically the d8r-ii plus doesn';t do CPPM that is the D8R-XP but the internals are the same and you can use the D8-XP';s firmware on the D8r-ii plus).

The good thing about the D range is that if you use Baseflight Multiwii or APM then you can get an amount of data fed back from the FC to the RX so you don';t need the sensors that FrSky Sell.  If you are planning on using CPPM there is no need to use anything other than the D4R-ii it is a miniscule 5.8g (or 5g if you strip off the cardboard casing.)  I don';t believe this is possible yet with the X range as they use a different protocol for Telemetry.

Thanks Barney.
All a bit technical for me but I';m guessing it doesn';t really matter which I use then.
Only come to realise I needed more channels when I fitted a set of retracts to the 450.
I';m using DJI stuff. Does that make any difference?

I don';t know about naza';s so I';d double check what I';m saying first but from what I';ve read:

The frsky sbus is compatible with the naze in futaba sbus mode.  The Naza only handles 8 channels even over sbus so you can pretty much use any of the RX units as long as it has sbus or cppm for the ones with less than 8 physical connections.  Personally I don';t think you can beat the d4r-ii for the money.   If I';ve got it wrong and the Naza can handle more than 8 channels then I';d go for the X4 that has the sbus port and use that coz you';d get 16 channels.
